British Expeditionary Force WW1

Hi There

I just wanted to let you know my Father was one of the first British Army Soldiers to enter France when World War 1 broke out.

He was in the Royal Field Artillery, he was given many varied duries whilst there.

He also rode a motorbike along the trenches to lay telephone wires, to enable communications

He was also gassed (mustard gas) whilst there, which caused him lung problems when he became old.

He was also known as an 'Old Contemtible', because him and others refused to withdraw from the 'front line', and stood there ground whilst mayhem was going around them.

He was awarded the Mons Star Medal, as you can tell I was very proud of my Father and all he achieved.

If anyone is interested please post a reply  -  Thank you if you have spared time to read this
